  3. 03Use the result as a scenario tool for planning, relocation comparison, or paycheck expectations.

Result guide

  • This page does not internally model all state brackets, deductions, or credits.
  • A user-entered effective rate is often the safest launch approach when a fully maintained state database is not in scope.
  • The output is best treated as a planning estimate rather than a filing result.

About this calculator

State-tax pages are useful because users often already know their approximate effective rate or want to compare scenarios across locations. A clean production version should be explicit when it is rate-driven rather than pretending to maintain all 50 state tables.

This page therefore uses entered state and local rates to produce a fast annual and monthly estimate without claiming jurisdiction-specific completeness.

Frequently asked questions

Does this know my exact state's bracket rules?

No. This version uses the state and local rates you enter, which keeps the result transparent but intentionally simplified.

Why show a monthly number too?

Because many users are trying to understand paycheck impact or compare locations in monthly budget terms.

Which US states do not levy a state income tax?

Currently, nine states have no traditional personal state income tax on earned wages: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire (which phased out its dividend/interest tax), South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming. If you reside in one of these states, you can set the state rate to 0%.
